Ecology: Growing sun-exposed; under conditions which are dry or moist (usually in or near bogs or fens, less frequently over rocks).

Thallus: Crustose; branches densely aggregated or caespitose. Primary Thallus: Evanescent. Secondary Thallus: Present, of indeterminate growth; stipe 50-80-(100) mm high, .6-1.6 mm wide, lime green ((104) fading to pale yellow in the herbarium), homogeneously coloured or tainted brown, with intact or perforated wall, 20 µm thick. Upper Surface: Smooth.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form. Ascocarps: Sparse.

Conidiomata: Formed on podetia.

Pycnidia: With hyaline ostiolar gel.

Secondary Metabolites: Fumarprotocetraric acid, protocetraric acid, and usnic acid.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K – (negative), PD + red.
