Nomenclature: Current taxonomic status: accepted or basionymous. Taxonomic rank: species. Cladonia. Cladoniaceae Zenker (1827).

Ecology: Terricolous or bryophytic (mossy rocks); growing sun-exposed.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes ascending or horizontal; branches loosely aggregated or scattered; separate thallus parts 2-5 mm long; .8-5 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, of determinate growth; stipe 10-25 mm high, .75-2 mm wide, grey-green or lime green (sometimes almost white), homogeneously coloured, corticate (on lower half or up to cup) or not corticate, with intact wall. Thallus Outline: Margin crenulate or dissected. Upper Surface: Verruculose or areolated (where corticate or where cortex is breaking up), grey-green or lime green (pale, 121greyish greenish yellow (105)); not sorediate. Lower Surface: White or grey.

Lower Cortex: Absent.

Ascocarps: Forming along the margin of scyphi (usually on short stipes), moderately abundant, 1-4 mm in diam.. Disk: Strongly convex; brown.

Conidiomata: Formed on margins of scyphi (subsessile).

Secondary Metabolites: Fumarprotocetraric acid, rangiformic acid, norrangiformic acid, and protolichesterinic acid (with rangiformic or by itself), of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones and (higher) aliphatic acids.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K – (negative), C –, PD + red.
