Nomenclature: Current taxonomic status: accepted or basionymous. Taxonomic rank: species. Cladonia. Cladoniaceae Zenker (1827).

Ecology: Lignicolous (mostly on rotting logs); growing sun-exposed, partially shaded, or fully shaded.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes ascending; branches loosely aggregated, scattered, or clustered; separate thallus parts 3-8 mm long; 3-11 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, arising from center of the primary thallus, of determinate growth; stipe 10-35 mm high, .5-2 mm wide, lime green or olive (greyish greenish yellow (105) or pale yellow green (121) or olive brown (94)), homogeneously coloured (but whitish where decorticate), corticate (usually for about half the legth of the podetium), with intact wall, 25-40 µm thick. Thallus Outline: Margin crenulate or dissected. Upper Surface: Lime green (greyish greenish yellow (105) or pale yellow green (121)), smooth; not sorediate. Lower Surface: White, orange (and KOH+ red-violet), or brown (at base).

Lower Cortex: Absent.

Ascocarps: Forming apical at the tip of branches or stipes or along the margin of scyphi, sparse, 1-2 mm in diam.. Disk: Weakly convex to strongly convex; brown.

Secondary Metabolites: Fumarprotocetraric acid and protocetraric acid, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K – (negative) (or brownish), C –, PD + red.
