Ecology: Terricolous, rarely bryophytic, or lignicolous; growing sun-exposed, partially shaded, or fully shaded.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes ascending; branches loosely aggregated or clustered; separate thallus parts 2-5 mm long; 1-2.5 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Evanescent or persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, of indeterminate growth; stipe 20-65 mm high, 1-1.5 mm wide, grey-green, lime green, or brown (very light yellowish green (134-121), especially at base or in shady habitats, white to yellow-brown on decorticate areas, especially at tips), mottled or tainted brown, corticate or not corticate (on at least upper third to half of podetia, and sometimes almost entirely decorticate; in patches), with longitudinally split or perforated wall. Thallus Outline: Margin dissected. Upper Surface: Areolated (where corticate), grey-green or lime green, smooth; not sorediate. Lower Surface: White.

Lower Cortex: Absent.

Ascocarps: Forming apical at the tip of branches or stipes, sparse. Disk: Brown.

Secondary Metabolites: Fumarprotocetraric acid (with Cph-2) or protocetraric acid, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K – (negative) (or brownish), C –, PD + red.
