Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; lignicolous or corticolous.

Lichen Photobionts: Primary photobiont present; chlorococcal. Secondary photobiont absent.

Thallus: Crustose, not subdivided parts, leprose. Thallus Outline: Soon disappearing. Upper Surface: Grey or white; special structures absent; not pseudocyphellate; eciliate; without hairs; not isidate; not sorediate; not cephalodiate; not lobulate; without granules granules, without thalloconidia thalloconidia. Lower Surface: Not attached, thallus vagrant; special structures absent; not pseudocyphellate; not cyphellate; not rhizinate; without thalloconidia thalloconidia; not cavernulate; not tomentose.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, orbicular, becoming adnate to soon sessile. Margin: Distinct to prominent. Exciple: Black or brown. Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells black or brown. Hymenium: Oil inspersed, iodine reaction: Lugol’s positive. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: Brown or brownish yellow.

Asci: Tholus not thickened, amyloid, with non-amyloid narrow axial body and amyloid convergent flanks towards apex; ocular chamber broad; dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, 15-20-24 µm long, (5)-7.5-9-10 µm wide, obtuse; septa present; transversally septate, 1-transversally septate, formed by the proper spore wall; wall thin (young ascospores often septally thickened), not constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, dark brown or middle brown, not ornamented (young ascospores often septally thickened).

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.

Secondary Metabolites: Of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones (always with fumarprotocetraric acid).
