Biogeography: Continent: Europe.

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; terricolous; episubstratic.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; separate thallus parts thick. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Up to 3.5 cm long. Upper Surface: Grey (dirty), yellow, or brown, glossy (shiny); special structures absent; wrinkled.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, 1-1.5 mm in diam.. Disk: Black. Exciple: Light brown. Epithecium: Apical cells distinctly swollen (up to 4-5 µm), olive (olive). Hypothecium: White.

Asci: 55-65 µm long, 10-12 µm wide; dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, 12-16 µm long, 4-5.5 µm wide; septa absent or present (one septum).
