Kl. 104: 304, 1941; type specimen label data: N.Z., South Island, Canterbury, Castle Hill, on exposed limestone outcrops in tussock grasland, 600 m, 17 August 1935, H.H. Allan A 18 (W, holotype).

Biogeography: Colline. Continent: Australasia (N.Z.).

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; episubstratic; substrate calciferous.

Thallus: Not subdivided parts, continuous throughout; separate thallus parts.2-.5 mm thick. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Large; main branches basally not constricted. Thallus Outline: Margin concolorous the thallus centre. Upper Surface: White (chalky), plane; not sorediate; without thalloconidia thalloconidia.

Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution negative.

Ascocarps: Not emerging (juv.), soon sessile to becoming adnate, not constricted at the base, 5-80 per cm², .8-1.3-(1.7) mm in diam.. Margin: Not flexuose, persistent, 10-40 µm wide, epruinose to distinctly pruinose. Disk: Plane to weakly convex to strongly convex, black, epruinose, pruina scarce, without an umbo. Exciple: Hyphae radiating outwards; 2.5-4 µm wide; brown (reduced); not inspersed with crystals. Epithecium: Apical cells green to turquoise (Lecidea-green), cell pigment HCl+ blue. Hymenium: 80-105 µm high; white; iodine reaction: Lugol’s positive. Subhymenium: 15-30 µm high; white. Hypothecium: Brown to dark brown.

Ascospores: Broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid, (9)-12-13-(16) µm long, (5.5)-6.6-7.2-(8.5) µm wide; wall not ornamented.

Conidia: (3.5)-3.9-4.2-(5) µm long.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected.
