Ecology: Corticolous; substrate non-calciferous (rarely on rocks).

Thallus: Isotomic-dichotomous; erect, branches tapered; terete; not segmented or segmented. Secondary Thallus: Trunk with intact wall, dark brown (very rarely blackish), concolorous or paler than the branches. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 2-7 cm long; main branches basally not constricted or basally constricted. Thallus Outline: Margin entire. Upper Surface: Matt; not fissurate or fissurate; fissures without extrusions, transversely oriented (close to basal part) oriented; not foveate; without patches; not pseudocyphellate; cilia slender, laminal; isidiomorphs on mature and immature soralia, darker than the thallus; not papillate, papillae verrucose; soralia broad, forming ab initio or eroding from the tip of tubercles (only very slightly tuberculated), maculiform, erose, prominent, (15)-20-27-34-(73) per mm², isolated, not confluent with other soralia or confluent, but not fusing, emarginate or marginate; not tuberculate.

Upper Cortex: (3)-5.8-7.5-9.2-(12.5) % of thallus width. Medulla: (8.5)-17.5-22.7-27.9-(32.5) % of branch width, dense or compact; (23)-30.2-39.6-49-(67) % of thallus width, solid.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form.

Secondary Metabolites: Norstictic acid, stictic acid, and constictic acid (when present, as minor compound).
