Biogeography: Southern hemispheric. Continent: Australasia. Checklist records: Australia (in Australia very rare, more common on the South Is. of New Zealand) and New Zealand.

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; terricolous; growing under conditions which are dry (subarid areas).

Thallus: Foliose, subdivided into main parts, isotomic-dichotomous (subdichotomously to dichotomously branched), dispersed throughout and distinctly seperate (near thallus margin), lobed; lobes elongate (sublinear-elongate), imbricate (or not); separate thallus parts.2-1-(2) mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: .5-2 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Yellow (pale yellow to pale yellow-green), convex (weakly convex), matt, smooth; maculate (+/- maculate); not isidate; sorediate; soralia terminal (lobe apices and rarely margins becoming swollen and developing terminal soralia), capitate (subcapitate), soredia farinose. Lower Surface: Present, yellow (pale yellow to yellow-brown); attached by holdfasts (loosely adnate or unattached); rhizinate; rhizines sparse or moderately abundant, black, not branched (or rarely sparsely branched).

Medulla: White.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.

Secondary Metabolites: Present; throughout the thallus medulla, fumarprotocetraric acid, protocetraric acid (and succinprotocetraric acid), and usnic acid.

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K + orange (dingy brown), C –, PD + orange (orange-red).

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
