Biogeography: Southern hemispheric; coastal and montane. Continent: Australasia. Checklist records: Australia (uncommon, endemic, areas of southern, central and eastern Australia (W.A., N.T., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., Vic. and Tas. (Bass Strait)).

Ecology: Lichenized; saxicolous; growing under conditions which are dry.

Thallus: Foliose, irregular, lobed; lobes imbricate (or not); plane; separate thallus parts 1.5-3-(5) mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 4-6 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Lime green (lobes commonly black margined near apices), glossy (shiny); immaculate; wrinkled (sometimes rugulose); isidiate (isidia moderately dense to dense, to 0.2 mm high, epicorticate, rarely erumpent); isidia inflated or cylindrical (warty, becoming cylindrical), not ramified or ramified, coralloid, darkened at the tip (commonly dark to blackened); not sorediate. Lower Surface: Present, pale brown or dark brown; attached by holdfasts (adnate); rhizinate (slender); rhizines moderately abundant, pale brown or dark brown (concolorous with lower surface), not branched.

Medulla: White.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages (but rare, subpedicellate). Ascocarps: Apothecioid, 1-3 mm in diam.. Margin: Smooth (entire and shiny), distinct (involute); isidiate. Disk: Excavate (distorted, shiny), brownish red or dark brown.

Ascospores: 7-11 µm long, 4-5.5 µm wide.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed (not seen).

Secondary Metabolites: Present; usnic acid (other secondary metabolites: scabrosin 4,4'-diacetate, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-butyrate, scabrosin 4,4'-dibutyrate and scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-hexanoate).

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K –, C –, KC –, PD –.

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
